Are you a solopreneur or do you have a side gig? Either way it is more than likely that you are working from home. This can pose several challenges for anyone trying to stay productive and just be a hard core hustler. The distractions are simply endless and hard to avoid when you have what some would consider a dream stay at home job. Here are just a few tips that I have picked up for helping me keep a laser sharp focus at home. Not to mention these tips help keep me feeling like a real person. Enjoy!

1. Think Outside of the Box! Sometimes you just have to get creative and come up with a plan that works for you. When I say think outside of the box, I literally mean getting out of your box and finding new scenery. I find that if I am feeling super distracted and overwhelmed on the home front, it is time to take this show on the road. I pack up my laptop and find the closest Starbucks.

There are several reasons that this works for me and it can work for you too. Besides the killer wifi and the bonus coffee, it gives you an intended mission. You are simply there to work and get shit done. There are no dirty dishes staring you in the face. I even have a few biz buddies that like to meet up at Starbucks to work on projects together.

You don't have to have a neighborhood Starbucks for this to work. Even going to the park (weather permitting) or the local library can help you stay focused when you are feeling overwhelmed at home.

2. Stick to the List! This one single tip has been a lifesaver for me. Before I started making lists I felt like I was constantly taking on water. Making a list was my lifeboat. I now have a daily task list that I stick to.

Let me explain why this was so effective for me. When you are your own boss you basically can do anything you want. However, you will never be successful if you are always doing what you want, when you want. Everyone loves a good afternoon trip to the mall, but come on. We are building an empire here.

By building a list, I literally created a schedule for myself. I know the tasks that I have to do and I just get them done. Every now and then I treat my self to a mani, but I always try to keep real working hours. Working from home will only be productive if you actually do the work. Hold yourself accountable to complete the tasks you need to do.

3. Become Apart of the Community! This can be different for everyone, but it is still a valuable part of staying sane while working from home. I have online relationships, but I also need to have face-to-face interactions. I found this by joining various groups in my community.

The benefits that have developed from this are endless. Not only has it helped me network my business, but I have also made some new friends. Depending on where you live, there are numerous groups you can join to create new relationships. My favorite so far has been Meetup.com. I even started my own group for female entrepreneurs. Don't worry, there is even wine involved! I also have volunteered for various projects happening in the community.

These simple things have helped me not only stay focused at home, but have directly grown my business. Working from home can be a lonely road if you let it be. Find ways everyday to incorporate the outside world into your business. You might be surprised where it will take you.
