Being a new blogger can seem so DAMN overwhelming. Everyone is always buzzing about numbers, traffic, content upgrades, social media and on it goes. BUT does it ever really work?! I'm here to say yes. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. If you are new blogger or seasoned pro, this is going to dish out some bomb tips. Luckily the mastermind behind Bitchy Chicken (best name ever) is sharing how she took her new blog from zero to 4K in just two months. TWO!!!! Here's how she did it-
How I Increased Our New Blog Traffic To 4K In 2 Months By Mecyll of Bitchy Chicken
Do you find it impossible for your new blog, right? But it is. Because we did.
Increasing new blog traffic to 4K in two months is quite an epic for a new blog like we have. Our blog and shop, Bitchy Chicken, launched in February 16 this year, and around April, we reached 4,157 page views, with only 40% bounce rate, with readers across the globe and the blog seemed to have conquered the world. Out of overwhelm, we'd like to share what we've learned and created a free course.
You want that to happen to your blog, yeah? You want to spread a powerful message to your audience. You dreamed to inspire people and to sell products to them to help them in their small creative businesses. You desired to earn at home through passive income while you're on vacation in Caribbean. You want to work at home while taking care of your own kids and family without leaving them alone at home to work 9 to 5.
Those being said, you wondered, “How you can possibly do that?” And why should I be so concerned with blog traffic to earn more passive income? You can’t sell anything or offer anything if no one’s reading your site. It’s like Martin Luther speaking the first powerful sentence, “I have a dream” in front of the Statue of Liberty alone! *cricket sounds*
You can start by transforming your mundane blog to a powerful killer machine. It might take a lot of effort from you, but the response from your audience will be surprising once you do it. To make that achievable to you, I'll be sharing how we exactly did to reach our first 4K blog traffic in a span of 2 months of our new blog with the following badass tips:
1. Be active on social media.
When blogging, you should divide your work on 80-20 rule. 80% should be consumed with promotion of your blog posts, offers, services, freebies, or discounts (if you're a small business owner with a shop) and 20% should be on content creation.
That means, you don't have to blog a lot. But promote more. Learn how to use social media schedulers like Hootsuite, Buffer, CoSchedule (which is my FAVE), MeetEdgar, Later for Instagram, Tailwind and BoardBooster for Pinterest.
2. Comment on other blogs.
One smart strategy you can do to increase exposure to your blog is to comment to other blogs. It is highly encouraged to search for big blogs related to your niche and comment there. When you leave additional thoughts on their posts, don't say "Nice post" or "Great. This post is awesome." Leave something valuable for their audience.
After you've written your most valuable thoughts, leave a signature below with your name and the link of your site. You should be doing this more frequent than usual.
3. Learn how to use Pinterest like a pro.
Using Pinterest as a smartest content marketing tool has becoming a trend nowadays. Better learn how to use it like a pro. You need to learn how to optimize your profile, your boards and joining group boards and pin as their contributor. When done with consistency, it increases your chances for your blog posts (with nice, attractive, compelling images) to be seen and clicked. Bang! Traffic.
4. Allow crappy posts no more!
What you don't realize when you blog is you focus on yourself like all the time. Yes, it's your blog and you want to talk about anything you want your audience to learn from you and your experiences while you’re in Caribbean. If you're a creative business owner, you want to show how you cut the card stocks to make a nice smash book or journal. Yeah, I understand that.
But, the question is? Are they really that hooked to read the entire post knowing everything you wrote is just about you? I don't think so. Plus, you don't consider learning Flesch Reading Tests for your audience. Say whaaaaat? Yeah, Flesch Reading Test for your posts. “Hey, what the hell is that?” I know you'll ask that.
Flesch Reading Test is part of Yoast SEO plugin to allow you to write readable posts passable according to this test’s criteria. You don't need to write 20 sentences in one paragraph. Surely, your readers will be overwhelmed with your post and leave your site (including me!). Divide your paragraphs in 4 or 5 sentences if you have 20 sentences for that paragraph. You need to consider readability of your blog posts for your audience as well.
5. Compel your readers!
What I observe from most of the bloggers out there is the lack of compelling effect in their headlines. If you write less compelling headlines for your audience, why the hell should they read your post anyway? Why the heck should they click your post? You’re wasting my time! You're so mundane!
To avoid that mistake and to convince people to read your blog post or at least visit your blog instead, you need to start writing compelling, badass, killer headlines. It drives them crazy if they won't click on it and see what it is about.
Errrrr, how can you exactly do that?
Stir their emotions. Make them feel the need why they should read your post. Don't just say "How I Drive Blog Traffic" Do it something like this, "How I Exactly Increased My New Blog Traffic to 129.67% In 7 Days"
See the difference? That's how powerful compelling titles are for your blog.
6. Optimize your blog posts.
Optimize, optimization, and all related terms are overrated pieces of advice but I bet you still want to click because you don't know them yet.
When we say content optimization, it's upgrading your blog post to increase conversions from your audience. Let's say you added “click here to sign up and download” or an image saying "Click here to download your FREE worksheet" three times in your blog posts. These are content optimizations. You place content upgrades within your blog posts to drive conversions from your readers through their emails added on your list.
To do that right, you place them in the beginning, in the middle, and the end of the post without annoying your readers. Use apt images to convince them to give their emails to you.
7. Let go of irrelevant ads in your site.
Do you know that once your site loads more than 10 seconds, you're driving away readers? If you are a blogger with tons of Google ads, you're a suspect for this hideous crime.
You're wondering why you have less people reading your blog posts but you have tons of ads which are effective as you're making money from it. I bet you didn't know this secret. The more effective your ads are, the more people exit from your site.
Study your analytics. See the bounce rate. If you have more than 80% bounce rate, then it's the right time to let go of these ads. They're ruining your site layout and your site speed! For real!
8. Master SEO.
As a non-techie new blogger like you, I understand you don't know that much about SEO. SEO stands for search engine optimization. Again, the word optimization comes in. It's like a signage of your own shop with the name, address, and all the details written so people will know your shop exist.
It's the same thing for SEO. Google needs your good SEO score to detect you as they crawl to your site based from the information you've given to them. How does this work?
Keywords, familiar? You place a keyword in your Yoast SEO plugin. So, that same keyword should be seen in your headline, first paragraph of your post, another keywords in between content especially at the end of your blog post, alt images, meta description, featured image, and URL.
Sounds a lot, eh? Yes, creating powerful blog posts require effort. There’s more to it in our free course.
9. "The Robot Syndrome"
I know you have not heard about this type of syndrome since this is what I personally label bloggers, small business owners, who don't reply to their audience and their customers. It doesn't matter where or what social media platform. You need to humanize your brand, your blog, your business. When somebody comments your blog, you reply. When they send you email, you reply. Simple things like that matter to your audience.
10. Be a pro photographer.
Haaaaaaa? Yeah, you're shocked. You're not a pro. I know. But be one. How? You need to study how other photographers, bloggers with photographers choose or shoot images that are attractive enough for their audience. If you’re a broke blogger, learn to choose images that apt for your content and attractive for your readers, too.
When you pin to Pinterest, your capability to choose best photos matters. This is the same thing in Instagram. Great photos will stand out.
There are many ways to grab your audience's attention. But learning these tips and master them will drive them crazy when you do it with patience, consistency, love, and commitment. Establish authority to your audience by learning to how to serve them well. They will give back on how much value you give to them. This is how we increased our new blog traffic to 4K in 2 months. Hope this post helped you a lot.
