This word opt-in was only recently introduced to me. Since then it seems to be a reoccurring theme. Literally every webinar, periscope, BLAB, blog and e-course I have encountered since, brings up this opt-in topic. Reoccurring theme, everywhere I look. That is because it is a game changer for your business! Basically an opt-in is simply little pieces of knowledge you give away for free. It's your freebies!
Now, if I give the milk away for free, who is going to want to buy the cow? Or something like that... That's not at all the point. Giving away freebies let's people see that you know what you are doing. You can position yourself as the expert that you are. If you are crazy skilled at SEO or basically anything, then why not let people see a little bit of that?
1. Establish Yourself as an Expert
Now that you are letting people see you as an expert, you are starting to build an audience. This is a great way to build your blog views and your social media accounts. Sharing quality content on your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. will give you a higher level of true followers. By true followers, I mean those who are honestly interested in your business and seeing what you have to offer. Building an audience is key to building a business. By creating freebies you are growing that audience and introducing a trust factor.
2. Build an Audience
If you build it they will come! Just make sure you are attracting the right audience and creating information for your ideal clients. That leads me to the next reason why you should create freebies, or little knowledge bombs, as I like to call them. They can help you grow your (drum roll please!) super, stellar, amazing, e-mail list! TA-DA! The e-mail list is the holy grail of any business. If you haven't started one, do it yesterday.
This is also where the word opt-in overtakes a freebie. Instead of giving away the milk, you can trade it for an email address. This is pretty easy to do. I like Mail Chimp. They have great automated responses that can immediately be sent to anyone who chooses to opt-in. If you need help with this, let me know. Maybe future blog post...
Personally, I love opt-ins. If I want to download a freebie from someone I follow, it means two things. (1) They have great content. (2) They have knowledge about a topic I want to learn more about. End result...Of course I want in on their email list! People are great about keeping things spam free. I have never once received something I didn't want to read.
3. Grow Your Email List
Now the hard part, actually creating that piece of knowledge to develop into an opt-in. It can be hard to come up with something at first, but once you get started your knowledge will pour out. I know you can create something killer to share with the world.
Start with brainstorming. Write down all the amazing things you consider yourself to be an expert at. Then start coming up with ways to execute that knowledge bomb. Is it a worksheet, a mini e-course, or maybe even a webinar? To get your brain juices flowing, I created two worksheets that include 25 ideas for a killer opt-in and a brainstorm page.
